About

Esther Breslin (born 1987, Dublin) is an Irish artist who has been based in Norway since 2013. She graduated from the National College of Art and Design, Dublin in 2011 with a BA Honours in Fine Art – Printmaking. In 2015 she co-founded a small printmaking studio in a municipal building called Rambu, situated in the rural town of Tynset. Along with her partner she has spent a number of years developing this building into a studio and event space. Currently, she is also undertaking a Masters in Fine Art at Kunstakademiet i Trondheim (2022).

While Esther's background is primarily in printmaking and painting, she increasingly incorporates other materials into traditional image making processes. She does this as a means of exploring themes such as perception, illusion and aesthetic experience. Her work is largely motivated by an interest in forest landscapes and our experience of, and interaction with, these environments. She is interested in the how they affect us on a psychological level and how, in turn, human activities affect these spaces.

Her current body of work deals with these issues in respect to the concept of landownership. From her home in rural Tylldalen, she is exploring whether the notion of ownership effects one's behaviours and attitudes towards a given space. She is investigating the tension between trying to care for an environment, while simultaneously being a user and beneficiary of said environment.
